    Oiling the MARK V

I would recommend oiling your Mark V on a regular basis, especially if the machine has been idle for a few weeks. To oil the speed control shaft it is accessible via the inspection plate on the rear of the headstock.

    1. With the machine unplugged from the mains rotate the speed dial up to "Rout-Shape" range.
    2. Open the inspection plate and you will see the control sheave, look for the oil hole.
    3. The oil hole in the sheave shaft is made visible by rotating the spindle by hand.
    4. Once located turn the spindle to align the hole to the top of it's revolution
    5. Using your oil pen apply a few drops into the hole and slide the sheave along the shaft in order to allow the oil to flow onto the shaft evenly. Work the sheave back and forth 2 or 3 times.

You can now move on to oiling the motor sheave shaft. Using the procedure on your user manual, it's very difficult at times to locate the oiling hole for the motor shaft without having X-ray vision. The following method may help you locate the oil hole in an easier manner.

    1. Remove both screws located on either side of the belt cover and take off the belt cover. With the belt cover off, the entire motor shaft assembly is visible.
    2. Locate the oiling hole - it's located at the base of the moveable sheave, underneath the spring. A screw driver can be used to pry apart the spring coils two of 3 coils from the sheave. With the coils separated, the oil hole will be clearly visible, rotate the spindle by hand to find it.
    3. Your oil pen uses a good light weight oil and you need to allow three or four drops to drip into the exposed hole. With the oiling complete, follow the last steps before switching on.
    4. Replace the belt cover and then mount your 12" Sanding Disk to the main spindle.
    5. Rotate the Disc by hand as you Gently turn the Speed dial down to the "Slow" position.
    6. Plug in your unit, turn on and run the machine through its entire speed range a few times.
    7. Don't forget to replace the screw in the inspection plate and put the cap back on the oil pen.
